DEDICATED district and county councillor Stephen Glanfield has died at the age of 64, less than a year after being diagnosed with cancer.

Mr Glanfield, who held his post as Conservative district councillor for Amberley and Woodchester since the mid-1990s, passed away at his home in Painswick surrounded by his family on Monday, October 18.

Having previously been a district cabinet member for finance, Mr Glanfield was in his second term as county councillor and was less than a month away from his 65th birthday on November 15.

He was also chairman of Nailsworth-based company Pointflame Services Ltd, which supplies its multi-functional Collie Clip device to a host of high-profile clients, including the MoD and US military.

Despite being told he had cancer of the oesophagus in February, his wife Liz, also 64, said he was delighted to be able to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with family in France this summer.

"He was a born optimist who loved life and gave a lot back to many people," said Liz, who works at Cotswold Care Hospice and coaches tennis to children with special needs.

Mr Glanfield is also survived by his daughters Jo, 36, who is a lawyer, Lucy, 34, an A&E consultant, and beloved grandchildren Cameron, six, and Juliet, three, by Jo, and 19-month-old Isabella by Lucy, who is expecting her second child in six weeks.
