An archaeological investigation is due to get underway in the heart of Gloucester in search of the city’s old Roman wall.
A team from Gloucestershire County Council’s Archaeology Service will begin digging on Kimbrose Triangle on Wednesday (March 4th) ahead of work on a new scheme to connect the Quays to the city.
Experts want to explore the area to see if there are any signs of the line of the old Roman wall before engineers start on the pedestrianisation works to Kimbrose Triangle and Southgate Street,.
Cllr Stan Waddington, Gloucestershire County Council Cabinet member for environment said, “Gloucester has a rich Roman heritage and this is an ideal opportunity for our archaeological team to explore another part of the city.
“The changes that are planned for this area are an important part of the city’s regeneration but it is also exciting chance to find out more about the past”.
