AN UPDATE has been provided on the road closure near Stroud. 

A road closure has been in place since March 13 on the A46 at the Pincot Lane/Wragg Castle Lane junction, approximately 2.5km south of Painswick.

Since then, Gloucestershire County Council has been posting regular updates about the works undertaken at the closure. 

A post from GCC reads: "On March 7 a hole was found beneath the road and temporary traffic lights were installed.

Stroud News and Journal: Latest update on the closure on the A46 near Painswick"Technical inspections were carried out and on 11 March and the road was closed for safety reasons as cracks have also been found at this location.

"We are working to investigate the source of the problem and make the road safe again as soon as possible.

"Until we know more about the extent of the damage, we can not estimate when the road will be reopened.

"Ground investigation works are programmed for April 2 - 12 to determine ground conditions, and depth of failure causing the landslip and cracking to the A46."
