FIREFIGHTERS were called to a fire within a shipping container in the early hours of this morning near Chalford.

A Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed that the fire broke out at Aston Down, Cowcombe Lane, at around 4am this morning (December 21).

Two crews from Nailsworth and Stroud attended the incident.

The service previously blamed the blaze on an ‘electrical fault’.

They said: “We were called to a fire at a shipping container at 4.18am this morning and sent one fire engine from Stroud and one from Nailsworth to deal with it.

“We used two hose reels and two sets of breathing apparatus to put it out.

“The contents were 50 per cent damaged by the fire and we left the scene at 5.09am.”

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said in a tweet this morning: “Crews from Nailsworth and Stroud attended a fire within a shipping container last night near Chalford, early indication is an electrical fault was the cause.”
