NEIGHBOURS have expressed their shock after a murder investigation was launched following the discovery of a woman's body in Chapel Street, Stroud.
The small residential road was quiet this afternoon with no sign of police or emergency services.
Police discovered the body in a flat last Friday (November 4) after concerns were raised by a neighbour.
Michael Corbally, who has lived nearby in Parliament Street for 30 years, said the murder probe was ‘shocking’.
“I saw police around 9.15pm last night and I heard screaming and shouting," he said.
“I thought someone was chasing someone but then I saw the police were already there so I didn’t think too much of it.
“It used to be lovely street with all the old pensioners but times have definitely changed.

“You always hear shouting down that road but I’ve never thought anything of it.”
“Bloody hell Chapel Street I wasn’t expecting to hear that today."
Matthew Wheatie, who works at Middle Street Garage, said he witnessed two people being arrested this morning.
He said: “I saw two people getting carted away by the police this morning.
“I just carried on with my day at the garage.
“I see people getting arrested in this area quite often.
“I didn’t think anything of it.
“It just goes to show what happens down the road and you don’t even know."
A shop worker at Acre Street Stores, who didn’t want to be named, said it was ‘surprising’.
He said: “It’s a bit surprising because we weren’t expecting it.
“It just makes you more aware of crimes around the area.
“I’m from London so I thought moving to Stroud would be safer.
“Stroud is reminding me more and more of London.
“These sorts of incidents happen all the time in London
“I’m definitely going to be more aware when going out at night especially now it’s darker."
