A SLAD resident and citizen of the USA has been deported back to her home country after making an 'innocent' mistake when applying for her visa.

Jenn Singer and husband Daniel Edwards, a UK citizen, moved to the Cotswolds in search of their dream home.

However, because of the mistake in her application Jenn was deported back to the states last October, eight months later she is stranded without home or husband and still waiting for information from the Home Office.

When the Home Office was asked to explain the deportation a spokesperson said: "she might stay illegally."

Since March David Drew MP and his team have been liaising with the Home Office on the couple’s behalf and Dr Drew has now written to the Home Secretary on their behalf.

"This letter is to confirm, clarify and reassure your department of my belief that Jennifer and Daniel have always acted in good faith and are going through the process in a correct manner," said Stroud's MP

"We ask the department to look into this specific case and in addition, the complexity of the process which has caused two professional people to make a minor mistake which is now having catastrophic implications."

The couples efforts to rectify this have involved months of incorrect information and advice from the Home Office.

“We are aware of the minor mistake we made when applying for Jenn’s visa,” said Daniel, “but although we have tried to rectify this we’ve been hampered by misinformation.”

Following this advice Jenn was told she should go to the USA and submit the same application from there, which she did, only to discover that it was not the exact same application.

She was advised she could return to the UK for a visit while the couple regrouped, but upon entry she was detained for eight hours by border control at Manchester Airport.

No reason was given why she was being held and she was not offered food or water.

A Home Office spokesman said that Ms Singer had twice been advised of the supporting information required before her application could be considered, but nothing had yet been received.

He said: “Once the requested evidence has been submitted, we will be happy to consider the case.”
