A football-sized sinkhole has appeared near a primary school in Stroud.
Police have closed off the top of Bisley Old Road today after part of the tarmac crumbled away close to Severn View Academy.
The hole, which is around 20 centimetres in diameter, appears to have opened up under the main road, which is in constant use during the school run.
A section of the road between the junctions with Bisley Road and Mason Road is now shut to traffic.
Gloucestershire County Council have ordered the piece of road to be cordoned off.
Police have put up 'road closed' signs at either end of the coned-off area, but the pavement is still open to pedestrians.
The county council sent a team to assess the hole on Tuesday and have scheduled repair work to take place on Monday July 25.
The road is also scheduled to close on Thursday July 28 for around a week due to building work.
