THE COMPOSITION of the Stroud Town Council is poised for a significant transformation, following the local elections scheduled for Thursday, May 2.

A diverse range of candidates are vying for the opportunity to represent the Stroud wards.

A considerable number of new applicants from across the community seek election, promising to infuse fresh perspectives into the council's work on behalf of Stroud's residents.

The complete list of candidates has been prominently displayed in the town council windows, allowing residents to familiarise themselves with the contenders before casting their votes.

Outgoing mayor Stella Parkes said: "It is encouraging to witness such a high level of civic engagement, with numerous citizens expressing their willingness to serve their community.

"The robust slate of candidates bodes well for Stroud's future prospects."

Voters will determine the composition of the new council on Thursday, May 2.

Successful candidates will take office the following week.

CEO Helen Bojaniwska said: "Stroud residents have a unique opportunity this year to shape the direction of our town.

"I encourage everyone to thoroughly assess the candidates and make their voices heard on election day."

The results of the vote will be published by Stroud District Council by Saturday, May 4 and then the new councillors will take office when they sign their declarations of acceptance of office.

One of the first orders of business for the newly constituted council will be the selection of the new mayor from among the elected councillors, as well as the co-option of a third councillor for Valley Ward.
